The
73rd PSABE National Convention, held on April 25, 2024, at the Legazpi City
Convention Center, celebrated the remarkable achievements of two distinguished
faculty members from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE)
at Cavite State University. Engr. Kelvin Michael A. Crystal received the
prestigious Most Outstanding Young ABE award, while Dr. Ruel M. Mojica was
honored with the esteemed Dr. Felix Maramba, Sr. Award, the highest accolade in
the profession.
Engr.
Crystal’s recognition as the Most Outstanding Young ABE underscores his
significant contributions to agricultural engineering. As a National Project
Coordinator at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, he
oversees vital agricultural projects and demonstrates a strong commitment to
academic excellence as an Associate Professor II at Cavite State University.
His impactful research, particularly in policy studies and rice security
assessment, highlights his dedication to sustainable food production. Notable
projects, such as the RAAFMech Project and the "Assessment of Futures of
Rice Security of the Philippines," reflect his commitment to enhancing
agricultural practices.
In
addition to his research contributions, Engr. Crystal has actively engaged with
coffee producer organizations under the PAKAPE Project, improving productivity
and market access for local farmers. His academic journey, graduating cum laude
with a BS in Agricultural Engineering and completing his Master’s degree at the
University of the Philippines Los Baños, illustrates his pursuit of knowledge
and excellence.
Dr.
Ruel M. Mojica’s recognition as the recipient of the Dr. Felix Maramba, Sr.
Award highlights his exceptional leadership and innovative spirit in
Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. A distinguished academician and
researcher, Dr. Mojica began his journey as the first Cum Laude graduate in the
Engineering program at Cavite State University. His expertise is further
enhanced by post-diplomas in coffee chemistry and renewable energy.
With
a remarkable record of eight scholarship grants, including being a Fulbright
scholar, Dr. Mojica’s achievements extend to three intellectual properties
(IPs) and numerous awards, including 24 Best Paper Awards. His research has
made a significant impact, with articles featured in various local, national,
and international journals.
Beyond
