PSABE Cavite Chapter Members Shine at the 73rd PSABE National Convention

The 73rd PSABE National Convention, held on April 25, 2024, at the Legazpi City Convention Center, celebrated the remarkable achievements of two distinguished faculty members from the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering (DAFE) at Cavite State University. Engr. Kelvin Michael A. Crystal received the prestigious Most Outstanding Young ABE award, while Dr. Ruel M. Mojica was honored with the esteemed Dr. Felix Maramba, Sr. Award, the highest accolade in the profession.

Engr. Crystal’s recognition as the Most Outstanding Young ABE underscores his significant contributions to agricultural engineering. As a National Project Coordinator at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, he oversees vital agricultural projects and demonstrates a strong commitment to academic excellence as an Associate Professor II at Cavite State University. His impactful research, particularly in policy studies and rice security assessment, highlights his dedication to sustainable food production. Notable projects, such as the RAAFMech Project and the "Assessment of Futures of Rice Security of the Philippines," reflect his commitment to enhancing agricultural practices.

In addition to his research contributions, Engr. Crystal has actively engaged with coffee producer organizations under the PAKAPE Project, improving productivity and market access for local farmers. His academic journey, graduating cum laude with a BS in Agricultural Engineering and completing his Master’s degree at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, illustrates his pursuit of knowledge and excellence.

Dr. Ruel M. Mojica’s recognition as the recipient of the Dr. Felix Maramba, Sr. Award highlights his exceptional leadership and innovative spirit in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. A distinguished academician and researcher, Dr. Mojica began his journey as the first Cum Laude graduate in the Engineering program at Cavite State University. His expertise is further enhanced by post-diplomas in coffee chemistry and renewable energy.

With a remarkable record of eight scholarship grants, including being a Fulbright scholar, Dr. Mojica’s achievements extend to three intellectual properties (IPs) and numerous awards, including 24 Best Paper Awards. His research has made a significant impact, with articles featured in various local, national, and international journals.

Beyond his academic and research accomplishments, Dr. Mojica's leadership in the agricultural engineering community is evident through his involvement as a scientific speaker, evaluator, and paper presenter. His commitment to ethical standards and excellence serves as an inspiration for future engineers.
